ABSTRACT

The model developed for such sandstones (Fig. 2) has bearing behaviour largely corresponding to the model for concrete (Rehm, Diem, Zimbelmann, 1977). It contains stiff grains in a soft matrix, as for normal concrete the load distribution takes place along the shortest distance between the grains; the resulting tensile stresses between the grains as a result of load distribution are carried by the matrix. The more equal the elasticity modulii of the grains and the matrix are, the lower is this influence. The properties of the matrix are decisive.
