ABSTRACT

The present investigation deals with precast panels with exposed aggregate surface finish. Four types of precast panels each with a different system of reinforcement or different exposed aggregate were tested. The performance of the exposed aggregates as surface finish was evaluated through a study on the base concrete to exposed aggregate bond. Direct shear test on small areas of exposed aggregate surface was conducted on specimens which had been exposed to various degrees of simulated weathering as well as on unexposed specimens. Effects of temperature induced stresses was simulated in a cyclic eccentric compression test while alternate climatic changes of sunshine and rain was simulated in the laboratory by using a weatherometer.
