ABSTRACT

Ladies and Gentlemen, first of all may I say how delighted I am to be here this morning in my role as an Employment Minister to open this international conference on work in compressed air. I am reliably informed that this is the first time since 1965 that such a conference has been convened, to provide the opportunity for engineers, scientists, doctors, health and safety practitioners and lawyers with a common interest in the health and safety of compressed air workers to discuss common problems and common experiences and I would like to welcome delegates to the conference and, in particular, I extend a warm welcome to those from other countries.
