ABSTRACT

The study of economic psychology, or psychological economics, is a growing field of research. Economic psychologists are interested in a variety of topics, for example, everyday understandings of the economy, the psychological factors underlying household economic decisions, and the relations between personal identity and mass consumption. There is a Journal of Economic Psychology and an International Association for Research in Economic Psychology, which holds an annual conference and produces a newsletter. Currently there is an initiative by the Economic and Social Research Council entitled Economic Beliefs and Behaviour. Research in economic psychology is conducted by social psychologists, cognitive psychologists (focusing on economic decision-making) and developmental psychologists (focusing on children’s developing understanding of economic processes).
