ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION The objective of this chapter is to examine the impact of the European Commission’s Framework Programmes (FPs) I (1984-7) and II (1988-91) on Greece. It is based on a research project undertaken by Planet SA, the Institute for Economic Policy Studies (IMOP) and Logotech SA, which lasted for eight months (from May 1993 to December 1994). The title of the project was ‘Evaluation of the impact of the Community’s RTD policy in Greece’, and was undertaken for PRAXI KP, an initiative of the Greek Confederation of Industries (SEB) and the Greek Foundation for Research and Technology (FORTH), and funded by the Commission’s Stride programme. In more detail, the study analyses the impact of the FPs on:

• the participating organizations, • the overall Greek R&D environment and • the National Research and Technology policy.
