ABSTRACT

In the past decades, the Swedish educational system has undergone dramatic changes. In the early fifties most pupils received education for no more than six or seven years (while almost 100 per cent now attend school for at least eleven years) and the education on offer was out of date. Less than 5 per cent of the population attained the higher levels of education (polytechnics and universities). Only 10 per cent completed secondary education (Gran, 1986).
