ABSTRACT
Francis Galton was born in 1822 and died in 1911. He lived therefore during the period when it could be argued that individualism and liberalism were more prominent in Britain than elsewhere. Within such a Zeitgeist it is not surprising that he should have initiated the study of differences among individuals, on account of which he has long held an honoured place in the history of psychology.
