ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the methods adopted in investigating the approaches to values education taken by teachers in schools and in pre-service teacher education, their explicit positions and their underlying rationales. It deals also with investigating views about the most effective ways of preparing teachers to teach values and handle approaches to values in schools. The chapter concludes with some observations about the ways in which teachers can clarify for themselves their own position and that of people with whom they work as a basis for developing a coherent approach to the teaching of values in schools.
