ABSTRACT

In this report of a study carried out at De Montfort University in Bedford, the title is deliberately restricted to part of the United Kingdom only, since Northern Ireland and Scotland have their own educational systems and variations of training and practice. It could, therefore, be that a similar study done in either of those regions would give different results. The fourth member of the kingdom, Wales, shares the same system as England, but although there are teachers of Welsh origin included in this sample, no schools in Wales were involved.
