ABSTRACT

There now follows a review of the four major types of approach to international production, together with the eclectic paradigm. The next section then examines the relationship between different approaches in the perspectives they offer on the growth of the firm and international competitiveness. This leads into a concluding section on how the various approaches have attempted or are attempting to treat the dynamic aspects of international production, with some speculations on possible future developments in the analysis of international production. Since much of the literature has been concerned to emphasise the role played by technology in the growth of MNCs, this features heavily in the discussion.
