During the last decade a new interest in the notion of citizenship has emerged among academics: in international writings political scientists, sociologists, psychologists and, more recently, educators discuss, analyse and reconceptualize the meanings of citizenship. Beyond the theoretical discussions, new perspectives and approaches are proposed, especially in the field of education, with the aim of socializing new citizens in a way that will enable them to live and act according to the requirements of democratic societies.
