ABSTRACT

The Holocaust has been taught as part of the National Curriculum in England and Wales since 1990. It was introduced as a component of Key Stage 4, but following a decision by the Secretary of State in 1993 to make history an option for this age group, rather than a requirement, it became a part of Key Stage 3. A recent survey indicates that the subject is now most likely to be taught at the end of Year 9 to students aged between 13 and 15 (Short 1995).
