ABSTRACT

The above quotation is taken from a letter which Olof Palme read out at the Swedish Social Democratic Worker’s Party (SAP) Congress in 1972, when he spoke under the heading, “Women’s equality”. He had received the letter from a female party member and, stating that the writer’s words contained a “profound truth”, he maintained that the party needed to increase its efforts to recruit and educate women. He added, “It is true, as has been said, that women must fight for a place through their own strength, however that is not enough. It is a mutual responsibility for the entire workers’ movement.”2
