Women's published writings 1600–1700

The first English printed books appeared in the fifteenth century. While some women's writings were published in the sixteenth century, up to 1640 few women wrote for publication, and those who did were conscious of behaving in an unusual way. During the Civil Wars and Interregnum, women published in increasing numbers, and they continued to write after some setback at the Restoration.
