ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the outcomes of a study of the nature and extent of provision for training of lunchtime supervisors throughout the United Kingdom. The study involved writing to all Local Education Authorities asking them to describe provision available within their area. There are, of course, drawbacks to this kind of investigation: as a researcher you rely on your letter arriving with the right person, and on that person being willing and able to reply. Nevertheless, the overall response rate was 52 per cent, thus allowing a fairly substantial but still incomplete picture of supervisor training in the United Kingdom to be established.
