ABSTRACT
An audit can provide no more valuable service than ensuring the survival of the planet. This may seem to claim too much for an activity which is much more modest in scope. There will be increasing numbers of false messiahs as we approach the year 2000, and environmental auditing can do without being amongst them. Despite the need for caution, an audit has a valid role to play, and it can bring about improvement in the built environment.
