ABSTRACT
Urban design, or the shape of our cities, has not featured strongly in the greenhouse debate. There is rather, a natural tendency for scientists and engineers to favour technological assessments and solutions. It is rarely considered that the placement of buildings and how compactly they are grouped will make a major impact on transportation and thus the production of greenhouse gases.
