ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses two issues: (1) a desirable admittance system of foreign workers for Japan and (2) the possible effects of immigration on Japan’s economy and population structure. It concludes that although there may be particular needs that are met by immigration, it is only a short-term solution to the ageing of the population and that immigrants themselves age.
