ABSTRACT
Clusters of small firms performing similar activities are a common sight in the urban areas of developing countries. Metal workers, mechanics, and secondhand clothing vendors gather in sectorally-specific, geographically-bound agglomerations. Recent research on Marshallian industrial districts suggests that such clusters could play a vital role in industrialisation.
