ABSTRACT
Transplantation of neural tissues is not new. There is a long tradition in developmental neurobiology of neural grafting in submammalian species, such as for investigation of factors controlling formation of retino-tectal connections in amphibians. Although the use of neural transplantation techniques has only recently become established in mammalian research, even this has a long (albeit sporadic) history.
