ABSTRACT

The good news first: feminist activism is alive and well in the 1990s. By this I mean that vast numbers of women, only a very few of whom could have a voice in a volume of this length, are engaged in organized activities designed to improve the conditions of women's varied existence. Every single chapter in this volume documents this; the struggle for change in women's lives which feminist activism entails, a struggle that has been going on for a very long time and is continuing to do so. 1
