Boys, as well as girls, who grow up in 'Laissez-faire' families, have a more negative self-image than other children. Above all, this applies to girls. Researchers such as Rosenberg (1965), Coopersmith (1967) and Greenstein (1969) have previously presented similar results; children growing up in this type of communication climate show a lower degree of self-esteem. A communication climate characterized by 'Laissez-faire' is easily interpreted as an inadequate commitment and indifference from the parents towards the child. Not being confirmed gives the child a feeling that the parents do not care, and because of this, the child may feel worthless.
