ABSTRACT
Large-scale Chinese migration to Britain was the result of the openings created by the popularization of Chinese food, and the subsequent restaurant boom, after the Second World War. This post-war influx substantially boosted the numbers of Chinese living in Britain from less than 5,000 in 1946 to an estimated 150,000 to 180,000 today, thus making the Chinese the third largest visible minority group in Britain.
