ABSTRACT
For this session each participant should bring a copy of a court report that they have written on an ethnic minority client. The purpose of the exercise is to examine the reports for comments that may be stereotyped, misleading, or racist. The trainer could start by outlining (in 5 minutes) the points made by Whitehouse in Chapter 11. The objectives are:
1 To give an awareness of the difficulties that ethnic minorities face in court. 2 To discuss the value of supervision with ethnic minorities. 3 To examine the preparation of social enquiry reports and the extent to which
recommendations are accepted by the courts. 4 To discuss the extent to which custodial sentences are recommended to
ethnic minorities by workers.
