ABSTRACT
On 21 October 1939 Sean Lester, Deputy Secretary-General of the League of Nations, used a radio broadcast to the New York World Fair to discuss the organisation’s adjustment to a world at war.1 The outbreak of the Second World War, the very war the League had been created to prevent, had resulted already in the postponement of the Assembly and Council sessions scheduled for September 1939.
