ABSTRACT
All teachers and most pupils will have a working conception of motivation. Motivation is the thing that explains why one person does better at a task than another even though both appear to have equal ability. Motivation is the thing that leads to one person working long and hard at a task while another stops at the first excuse. Motivation is the thing that enables one pupil to work with the minimum of direction and guidance from the teacher, while another child has to be constantly monitored and directed.
