ABSTRACT
Reduced to its essentials, the concept of representative democracy boils down to three key points:
the adoption of legislation by a representative assembly elected by and accountable to the people
dependence of the executive on the support of the elected assembly
rule of the majority within the framework of the rule of law respecting the fundamental rights of individuals.
