Primary science: a second-class core subject?

This chapter will revisit the reasons why it is important for children to encounter science in the primary classroom. Firstly, it will consider the fundamental role of science in the primary curriculum and the role of scientific enquiry in the development of scientific understanding; secondly, it will consider the current status of science in the primary curriculum; and finally, it will suggest ways forward into the new millennium.
