ABSTRACT

The ideology of the Iranian Islamic Revolution provides an occasion to examine the Islamic Republic’s stated purposes in light of its policies, actions and intentions. This revolution has profoundly influenced Shi’i and Sunni communities everywhere, and has had a significant impact on world affairs. This chapter is a critical review of the Islamic ideology with respect to two aspects of that ideology: the creation of a new Islamic human being under divine rule, and the restoration of Islamic economic justice. In Iran, the Islamic Republic has sought to attain four important goals. These are, first, the establishment of an ideal divine rule; second, the creation of true Islamic society and person; third, restoration of Islamic economic justice; and fourth, the restoration of the independence of Iran and other Muslim nations-through export of revolution if necessary. Here we shall address the first three goals of the Islamic Republic. The last is a question that is beyond the scope of our study.
