ABSTRACT
The age of transfer from primary to secondary school and issues surrounding it have been the subject of debate and research for the past fifty years in the UK. This chapter seeks to explore pupil transition between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 and pupil experiences of transitions as they change year groups in the secondary school. A brief look at the historical background will provide a context for issues of continuity and progression following transition.
