ABSTRACT

In order to describe socialization in the organization and the re-construction of gender that takes place within it, the anthropological concepts of enculturation and acculturation are used. Enculturation is the process during which people learn their culture (Herskovits 1972), and acculturation is when persons from one culture learn another culture (Redfield et al. 1936). The two concepts together offer an interesting way to describe socialization in organizations.
