ABSTRACT

Since the 1980s, the gendering of organizations, studied on the micro level, and the cross-national approach towards gender and employment, studied on the macro level, have occupied a prominent role on the research agenda. Studies conducted on the macro level have revealed different patterns of gender segregation and hierarchization in different labour markets. Although the pattern of segregation is basically the same in many countries, the form and extent of the segregation process varies and reveals the impact of gender policy at the societal level in cross-national variability.
