ABSTRACT

Gerontology is one of the fastest growing academic disciplines (Peterson, Wendt and Douglass, 1994). The increasing demand for gerontological education is particularly strong among professionals who have an educational background in an area not specific to aging (e.g. occupational therapy, social work, and long-term care administration). Such students are typically trained to work with families, children or the general public – but often find themselves struggling to meet the needs of a rapidly-expanding elderly population once they enter the workforce.
