ABSTRACT

We write this chapter with two types of reader in mind: the first will encounter drug users because they have a formal intervention role relating to problems associated with someone’s drug use. Most obviously, this might be a person working within a community drug team, although we recognise that interventions increasingly occur in criminal justice settings, general practice, or within services for young people. If this is you, we expect that you are largely empathic with the people you meet and hope that the chapter will assist with your existing, reflective approach concerning aspects of your relationship with drug users.
