Stigma, derived from the five marks left on Christ’s body by the Crucifixion known as the stigmata, can be regarded as a sign of beatification or a mark of shame. Among homeless people, the meaning is often all too clear – the mark of disgrace which leads them to be discredited and distrusted. Take Rosa’s story, with her five personal stigmata.
