ABSTRACT

The process of globalisation is one that has impacted on all elements of socio-cultural, economic and political life. As other chapters of this book demonstrate, globalisation is evident both in terms of its most widely used contexts, relating to international trade agreements and the spread of global companies, products and services within the world’s economy, and more subtly in the manifestation of global culture (music, theatre, communications) and leisure (sport, vacation tastes, fashion wear). Of course, these overt and subtler manifestations are closely allied and cannot be seen as independent entities.
