ABSTRACT
Arkansas is divided into 75 counties, 10 of which have shared (two) county seats, a vestige of an earlier era when a natural feature such as a river or mountain ridge dissected some counties, making it difficult to maintain a single seat of government. The counties are divided into townships, but the townships have no government. Municipalities are classified as towns and cities; there are two classes of cities. See Introduction.
