ABSTRACT
The U.S. seized Florida in 1811 and took formal control in 1821. Florida Territory was established March 30, 1822. Florida entered the Union as the 27th state March 3, 1845. It seceded as a Confederate state January 10, 1861, and was readmitted June 25, 1868.
