ABSTRACT
Hawaii has four counties. A fifth county, Kalawao, on the northern shore of Molokai, was created to serve the leper colony on Kalaupapa peninsula now closed. The county is no longer functioning. The City and County of Honolulu are coterminous, otherwise there are no municipalities in Hawaii. All four counties have mayors and councils similar to municipal governments. There are no townships.
