ABSTRACT
Indiana is divided into 92 counties. The counties are divided into townships with limited governments. Municipalities are classified as towns and cities. In January 1970, the city of Indianapolis consolidated with Marion County. Several smaller municipalities opted not to participate in the merger. See Introduction.
