ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the complex processes and practices of third-grade students while reading and responding to standardized reading comprehension practice assessments. It describes how students used a variety of literacy strategies to efficiently and accurately select answers on multiple choice practice items. This close study of the holistic practices of high scoring readers offers insight into how we teach comprehension strategies to all students.
