ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the contributions corpus-linguistic research can make to pragmatics, the study of meaning in context. It reviews corpus research into core pragmatic phenomena, including speech acts, pragmatic markers and turn-taking, and sketches out the promise and challenges that lie in the construction and analysis of multimodal corpora.
