ABSTRACT

This chapter measures the discriminatory treatment experienced by young citizens of India. Analysing the perception findings from the CSDS study it finds that while most young people in India report not having been discriminated against at all, a significant proportion – one in every six – do report having experienced discrimination at least once in recent times, either on the grounds of caste, religion, gender, region or economic status. Of all these, economic background and caste seem to be the most prevalent basis for discrimination.
