ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author reviews the creation, evaluation, and dissemination of an online prevention program for children of divorce: Children of Divorce – Coping with Divorce (CoD-CoD). Online programs are an increasingly popular way to disseminate prevention and intervention programs. Particular focus is placed on the process of transforming existing in-person manualized programs into an online format that maximizes the advantages and minimizes the disadvantages of online program delivery. Much like a living being, the CoD-CoD program developed through a combination of premeditated design (i.e., nature) and environmental circumstance (i.e., nurture). To distil the skills most useful to creating CoD-CoD, the author developed a spreadsheet listing each activity of each program that identified if they addressed a mediator from his theory of the program. He decided to split CoD-CoD into five modules with each module targeting one or more of the program’s putative mediators.
