ABSTRACT
Final project workshops might end with an open round of feedback on “How was it?,” but this is mostly a collection of impressions and thoughts, and not an in-depth consideration of research processes in general and of the relationship between the processes and their outcomes in particular. Some information on the project and its design is provided, and four topics are then discussed, which – in retrospect – seem to have been crucial to the project’s success: mediating between individual interests and cooperative project development, stability and dynamics within the social system of research, incremental processes and a major breakthrough – who is pushing the development? and success, failure and the importance of having staying power. “Carinthia International” started with the assumptions that an international attitude and international activities are crucial for sustainable (regional) development, and that at the same time this development implies new challenges for organizations and people.
