ABSTRACT

Australian philosopher Val Plumwoo's highly original thinking draws on the basic ecofeminist idea that women and nature are both seen as inferior in a long tradition of Western philosophy and religion, and that this must come to an end. This chapter aims to demonstrate her relevance while thinking about organizations in times such as ours and also to provide a sense of her life as interwoven with her ideas. It offers significant elements by selecting the ideas from Plumwood that the author have found to be most pertinent in the context of organizations. The chapter revolves around topics such as food, death and our relationship with nature; topics that are crucial for all societies at all times. Val Plumwood systematically and historically criticizes dualisms in Western traditions of thought, which aligns her with the 1980s and 1990s wave of poststructuralist work.
