ABSTRACT
During the last twenty-five years conflict research has emerged not as a discipline in the traditional academic sense, but rather as a set of approaches to the analysis of conflict. There is not as yet a broad consensus as to its content or methodology and indeed, it can be argued, any such agreement would be premature. This paper traces the development of one set of approaches to conflict research and considers the extent to which these approaches constitute a viable perspective.
