ABSTRACT

In the year 2084, the world has emerged from a period of crises and has moved toward a radically different system in which resilient economies channel and constrain markets to function within more compassionate social norms and well-established environmental limits. This new global commonwealth, Earthland, is organized through a “constrained pluralism” that recognizes globalism (“One World”) and local diversity (“Many Places”). Regions adopt different models in accordance with their cultural and political leanings. Humanity and earth itself are still healing from the wounds of the past, but the world of 2084 confirms the dreams of earlier decades that another world is possible.
