ABSTRACT

Transitioning to a non-capitalist system requires changing the “who and the why of key economic decision-making.” By creating Worker Self-Directed Enterprises (WSDEs), workers become their own bosses, responsible for democratically deciding what, how, and where goods are produced, how to distribute or reinvest profits, and, with democratic organizations of residential communities, how to take into account health, community wealth, and solidarity. WSDEs represent both the goal of a new system and the mechanism for reaching it.
