ABSTRACT

The solidarity economy is an evolving global framework for building a just and equitable economic alternative to capitalism and other authoritarian, state-dominated systems. It is an ecosystem of practices that align with values informed by social movements focusing on anti-racism, feminism, anti-imperialism, labor, poor people, the environment, and democracy. The concept encompasses principles of solidarity, equity, participatory democracy, sustainability, and pluralism. The Solidarity Economy Mapping Project tracks the myriad ways to realize an economic vision that replaces an ecologically destructive focus on profit with a fabric of mutual economic support.
